HOW WILL THE ANGELS LOSE TODAY?!

They won't. They're facing a team that hasn't paired excellent pitching with a good offensive showing in the same game in two weeks.

That inning is a microcosm of the Cub offense lately. Even if they score without a homer, it's from something like a ground out. Put a guy on second or third and no one is getting a hit.

Lester gets about 18 inches off the outside corner, it seems.

Cubs got younger today, DFAing Jim Adducci, age 34, and bringing in Carlos Gonzalez, age 33.

Brewers demoted Hiura and brought back Shaw. BrewCrewBall is melting down

Hiura hit just .281/.333/.531 in those 17 games with the Brewers. Terrible OBP, he’s gotta work on that.

A RBI hit with a runner in scoring position .... it's the apocalypse.

Do the Brewers get any service-time advantage from sending Hiura back down?

Whoever would've thought that Mike Trout's muffing a line drive might turn out to be one of the answers?

Quiet, you. Season's bad enough as it is!

Cubs have as many hits with runners in scoring position today (4) as they did in their previous seven games combined. And three of those four hits in the previous seven games didn't drive in runs. 6-0 Cubs here in the sixth.

CarGo fixed the offense.

Possibly. Looks like 19-20 days of service time. The super-2 cutoff is usually around June 1 (I think), so if they'd kept him up all year, he'd have potentially been arb-eligible after 2021. If they keep him down for 3+ weeks, they can avoid super-2. But there's nothing related to getting the extra year at this point so holding him down would be pretty small stuff.

I suspect it's more about a 25-man roster crunch and he's got options. An injury or a minor trade away from coming back up. Glancing at their roster, he and Arcia might be the only position players with options. Gamel and Perez might too but both are doing fine as bench players. Also Yelich but I suspect demoting Yelich might raise some eyebrows. :-)

Doesn't, um, Shaw have options left?

16--yes, two

Demoting Heura seems nuts - I'm not sure what else they could have expected out of him, or what they think he will learn back at AAA. I can't imagine there's not some service time manipulation at the heart of it.

Good point, hadn't thought of that.

EDIT: That said, terrible start or not, Shaw has put up 8 WAR over the last 2 seasons. That guy gets activated ASAP.
