Top 50 Trade Candidates For The 2019 MLB Trade Deadline - MLB Trade Rumors

1. Will Smith, RP, Giants: What really is there to say? A shut-down rental closer who throws from the left side and isn’t all that expensive ($4.225MM) … yeah, that’s going to be a popular trade target. Smith would upgrade every contender’s roster and suit every payroll. Accordingly, the acquisition cost will be high. Want more on Smith?

5. Kirby Yates, RP, Padres: The Friars are putting out word they’d need to be overwhelmed to deal Yates, who is the organization’s latest ultra-successful salvage reliever

He's been untouchable this season.

The Giants have five players in the top 15:

LHSP Madison Bumgarner (#2)

LHRP Will Smith (#1)
LHRP Tony Watson (#6-7)
RHRP Sam Dyson (#11-12)

1B/3B Pablo Sandoval (#15)

SP Jeff Samardzija, RP Mark Melancon, 1B Brandon Belt, and CF Kevin Pillar also on the list.

@3 bravo if the Giants can get something useful for Pillar, because what they sent the Jays for him has been absolutely dreadful....

It would be hugely impressive if the Giants got any kind of return for Pablo Sandoval. The Red Sox are paying him $18 million this year.

It's essentially a list of 20 relievers having the season of their lives (which could all go up in smoke over the next 6 weeks), 20 relievers who once had 2-3 good seasons, 7 pending FAs having mediocre seasons and 3 guys you actually want but there's no reason for their teams to trade them because they're under control for another 3-4 years. (Not an actual count but probably pretty close.)

Pretty soon the trading deadline day will be known as the Great Migration of the Relievers.

The Angels let Kriby Yates go after one inning in 2017. ONE INNING.

Still angry about that.

Top 10 2017-19

Treinen 6.1
Kimbrel 5.9 (and he hasn't even pitched yet this year)
Hader 5.9
Hand 5.6
Iglesias 5.4
Vazquez 5.3
Jared Hughes 5.1 (you figure it out)
Doolittle 4.9
Jeffress 4.6
Cishek 4.5

Hey, the Cubs now have two of those guys -- season over!!!!!!

Wow, even more shocking!!!! Only 102 guys have even made it to 120 innings over those 2+ years. At least unlike position bench players, relievers are not given years to be below replacement -- only 7 guys are below replacement and two of those were once good and given too much rope (Jim Johnson and Ziegler).
