. . . but if he wins the batting title, gets the 100rbi and neither Phillies not the Padres make the playoffs...then Soto is winning it in a close vote.
Soto is leading the league in WAR, too, which could help a bit. Might catch Harper in OPS & OPS+, and even if he doesn’t, his OBP heavy OPS might resonate with voters who think the stat undervalues OBP a bit. It could be a very interesting vote. I may be overlooking something, but I don’t recall a year when the 3 most likely MVP possibilities were all on [currently] non-playoff teams.

I'm sure that there are other people having better Septembers than O'Neil, but there probably aren't a lot. .319/.390/.667/1.057, 7 hr(now 8), 4 doubles, 20 runs, 17 rbi. (combine with his August .304/.411/.506/.917) and he's putting up a line of .311/.401/.583/.984 in his last 44 games (177 pa) (or basically a slightly inferior to Soto's full season...lower obp, a tad more slugging)

One of them might have been Jays Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (Coincidentally both players a member of my fantasy team, which, I know, no one cares about.)
Sept 360/424/760/1.184 7HR 29RBI

In tonight's game @MIN Gurriel had another RBI, tying Kelly Gruber for the franchise all-time Sept record.

And Gurriel Jr's now been removed mid-defensive inning by the training staff. Looks like Grichuk stepped on his hand making a throw? Laceration?

Juan Soto’s September: .473/.608/.838 (1.446 OPS). Perhaps one of the Stathead Wizards can tell us who had the greatest month in MLB history?

Carl Yastrzemski's September 1967: .417/.504/.760 while leading his team to the pennant by a single game. The raw numbers aren't quite as good as Soto's, but given the circumstances (and the hitting environment of 1967), I'll take it.

the Red Sox slipped into 3rd place on Sept 17 but won the pennant in 1967.

Yaz in the last 12 games went 23 for 47 with 5 HR, 16 RBI, 14 R.

he went 7 for 8 with 1 HR, 6 RBI in the last two games, both wins.

the Sox won those games 6-4 and 5-3.

Yaz won the Triple Crown and also led in OBP, SLG, OPS, OPS+, TB, H, and R.

Bonds SEP 2001 steroid-fueled stats are
PA 117
runs 28
RBI 25
HR 16 (!)
AVG .403
OBP .607 (38 walks!)
SLG 1.078
OPS 1.685

After yesterday, O'Neill isn't even having the best September on his own team---check out Goldschmidt:
.329/.422/.684 for an OPS of 1.106, with 24 runs in 21 games, 7 hr, 14 rbi

A's collapse is almost complete.

And he went 2 for 4 today with a hr and 3 rbi, O'Neill could only go 1 for 4 with a hr and 2 rbi.

Cards with an 8 to 5 victory to extend their streak to 13, going for 14 tonight.

Random sabermetric question:

WHy are the stat cast OAAs listed in whole numbers? I dont get it. The methodology if I understand it is based on rating each fly ball or ground ball as a percentage liklihood it will be converted to an out.

They are putting each catch into pigeon holes of 20% increments: 100%, 80% etc. So it would make sense if the values we see were expressed in fractions. Presumably fractions in increments of .2.
