Austin Adams has hit 2 Dodgers in the inning, nobody out. He must smell the HBP record.

EDIT: And a 3rd HBP in the inning ties the live ball era season record.

Quite a weekend for cardinals. Opened a smidge of daylight with Phillies. Finally within striking distance of Padres-Reds. Still, a really tough schedule. This may be their high water mark. Padres don’t appear to have a snowballs chance in hell with snell getting hurt. I still think the Phillies are capable of winning a huge percentage of their games but they just can’t seem to turn it on and they be got a lot of ground to make up.

"I still think the Phillies are capable of winning a huge percentage of their games"

the idea that mediocre teams have big edges or deficits in small sample sizes based on schedules - I never have understood it, and the past 10 days in many ways has reinforced that

So apparently Todd Zeile believes that Liza Minnelli singing “New York, New York” during the 7th inning stretch of the first game after 9/11 caused Mike Piazza to hit the home run, because it loosened the ballpark up. Which tells you about all you need to know about players’ analytical abilities.

The Rockies came into Philadelphia this weekend with a 18-50 record on the road, and proceeded to take three of four from the Phils.

the Mets have not lost a game by more than one run in three weeks.

they are 9-8 in that span

last team other than SF or LAD to beat the Mets by more than a run was the Phillies back on Aug 8 (Mets are 14-17 in that span).

#sigh

most sportsbooks now offer lines both on who wins - and if your team comes within 1 run. a cautious Mets fan would have gotten rich in recent weeks, winning every night

here we go again

Mets lead 6-4 in the 7th, NYY leadoff man on.
tailor-made DP ball for Baez - but, knowing that the Olympics judges won't give many points for this one, he coughs it up. still gets the out at first, preserved his standing with every advanced stat thrown out here, I suspect.

in unrelated news, the bobble helps send Stanton to the plate with 2 outs, and the notorious Mets killer hits a long tater to tie it up. but no worries - no ding there on Baez's stats again.

an inning earlier, Lindor hit his 2nd HR of the game and then did some gyrations toward the Yankees dugout about whistling - as the Mets accused NYY of doing to tip off pitches the night before.

mellow Stanton trots by Lindor and seems to be saying something to the effect of, gee, maybe what goes around comes around.

as Stanton heads toward third and then the dugout, Lindor and Baez motion at the Yankees who have gathered onto the field, gesturing toward the Yankees in a high-school-musical-style scene to meet them at the 50-yard line so they can all "rumble."

yawn

p.s. full props for Brett Gardner giving both of them emphatic "thumbs-down" rulings on the field as things got heated, echoing the juvenile previous acts of these two Mets

And now ARod notes that the human umpiring crew was much better equipped to manage the dispute than robots would have been. Wow.

Pretty sure literally not one person has ever suggested that that would be the role of robot umps, although….it might be pretty entertaining. I’m just sayin’.

Although in fairness, props to ARod in that immediately before Stanton’s homer, he was questioning why they didn’t walk him and saying that they at least shouldn’t give him anything to hit. The next pitch, McCann sets up outside, Hand misses over the plate, and there you go.

Of course, Hand then struck Gallo out, as do most.

Well this is a fun game. Lindor hits his third HR of the night to give the Mets the lead, flexes as he runs the bases.

If Pete Alonso could lay off the high heat he’d be a truly elite hitter.

Dammit! I paused for about 5 minutes earlier tonight!

Lindor HR DEEP into the Gotham night, third of the game.

crowd goes wild - and he accepts the demands for a curtain call.

kid, keep it up and you'll forever be glad you signed in NY.

the worst place to play - or the best place.

This is the most exciting game ever in Mid September between a 4th place team and a 3rd place team.

ps- ARod needs to just STFU

   114. Howie Menckel Posted: September 13, 2021 at 12:22 AM (#6039376)
ridiculous TV movie script here sends Stanton to the plate with 2 men on, down 7-6, in the 9th and 2 out vs star-crossed closer Edwin Diaz.

2-2 count, and Diaz buries a 99 mph for strike 3 .... if there was a robot ump. but the real ump sees McCann get crossed up, the ball gets away, and now it's 2nd and 3rd.

what's the corniest possible ending here? maybe a popup to Lindor to end it?

your wish has been granted....

Because Met fans are scarred and broken people, most of us were probably Lindor to do the same thing Luis Castillo did a few years back.
   116. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: September 13, 2021 at 12:38 AM (#6039378)
Lindor raised his OPS 33 points in that game.

very interesting post-game interview with Lindor just wrapping up on SNY Mets network, for those who like to catch up with those sorts of things.

he didn't sound like someone who was turned into a Bull Durham-cliches robot by any means, but he seemed to me to handle the whole drama quite well. took pains to try, at least, not to 100 percent accuse the Yankees of cheating with the whistling from the dugout last night (even though the Yankees grabbed a quick 5-0 lead before TWalker retired I think his last 16 batters without the whistle-enhancing assistance). says he's not sure.

whether he learned a lot this season or he just got smart enough to listen to somebody smarter (which also is a skill), perhaps he is on his way.

Phils notch their 6th double blown save game but manage to win on a WOPB.

Per announcers, the next highest team has 4.
