What Mets told Carlos Beltran regarding sign-stealing scandal

On Thursday in Scottsdale, Ariz., at the GM meetings, Van Wagenen told reporters: “Anything that happened, happened with another organization, with Houston. … I have no idea if anything did or did not [occur], but at this point, I don’t see any reason why this is a Mets situation.”

Ha!

I was just following orders
That’s not the person I am today
I was just trying to be funny

I’m sure that line of thought will survive just as well

Players shouldn’t be the focus of the MLb investigation, nor the subject of discipline, although some may be important witnesses. Video sign-stealing couldn’t be done just by players, and it was the job of coaches, managers, front office types & off-field personnel to say “NO”.

Sure, OJ, I'll marry you. What happened with your last wife has no bearing on me.

I’m sure that line of thought

Have we learned nothing from Trump? Beltran's response should be "of course I stole signs. If it helps me, I'm supposed to steal signs. And I will do anything it takes to make the Mets Great Again."

Doesn't this suggest that the Astros front office was the victim of the sign-stealing, rather than the likely co-conspirators?

OMG you guys, talk about making a mountain out of a molehill. Next thing you know people will be taking Beltran's hiring and comparing it to Operation Paperclip. Settle down.

I think the most relevant discussion of the ethics of this can be summed up...just a second, let me find the quote...it's some Danish philosopher...uh...Kierkegaard?

A man who as a physical being is always turned toward the outside, thinking that his happiness lies outside him, finally turns inward and discovers that the source is within him.

While true, that's not really relevant, Søren.

Løgstrup?

Trust is not of our own making; it is given. Our life is so constituted that it cannot be lived except as one person lays him or herself open to another person and puts him or herself into that person’s hands either by showing or claiming trust. By our very attitude to another we help to shape that person’s world. By our attitude to the other person we help to determine the scope and hue of his or her world; we make it large or small, bright or drab, rich or dull, threatening or secure. We help to shape his or her world not by theories and views but by our very attitude towards him or her. Herein lies the unarticulated and one might say anonymous demand that we take care of the life which trust has placed in our hands.

Well...that's closer, but it's still not the one I was thinking of.

Ah, I got it! It wasn't Dansk filosofi...it was Svensk.

But where do you belong?

Indeed, the only philosophical question worth asking.

If we are making stuff up to tie it to the real world, "While the media fail to report or downplay that their favored teams, in LA and NYC, were also stealing signs."

And out of the other side of his mouth: "AJ Hinch? I barely know the gentleman."

Hinch? he stood on the steps at the side of the dugout by the trashcans. I was on the other side Of the dugout working on home run celebration dances. That train thing was my idea, I think someone on the other team stole it

Beltran will be made an example of from the player side of things. The most Mets thing ever of course.

No, that's still the Ponzi scheme.

No, that's still the Ponzi scheme.

If that's the case, the Bonilla payout is a close second (and yes, the two are related).

When will we hear about a conspiracy related to a vingar-based Japanese sauce with citrus undertones? I want a Ponzu scheme, dammit!
   14. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: November 18, 2019 at 02:12 PM (#5902058)
We had plenty of Fonzie schemes back in the '70s.

That's part of the reason the Ponzi scheme is so wonderful. I'd never separate those two things.

I had so much delicious food in Wales.

The Gower Salt Marsh Lamb

The Cardiff Mussels

But my favourite had to be...The Swansea Bream

Just a second...why are we doing this?
