Which prospects will make 40-man rosters?

Players first signed at age 18 must be added to 40-man rosters within five seasons or they become eligible to be drafted by other organizations through the Rule 5 process. Players signed at 19 years or older have to be protected within four seasons. Clubs pay $100,000 to select a player in the Major League phase of the Rule 5 Draft. If that player doesn’t stay on the 25-man roster for the full season, he must be offered back to his former team for $50,000.

For this year, that means an international or high school Draft pick signed in 2017—assuming he was 18 or younger as of June 8 of that year—has to be protected. A college player taken in the 2018 Draft is in the same position.

There are 14 players on MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list who need to be protected or become exposed to the Rule 5 Draft.

Key takeaways from the last several years (from the article, not me):

1. Every player on MLB's top 100 that needed protecting was protected. Usually about 10 per year, 14 this year as excerpt says.
2. About 55% of the players on each team's top 30 that need protecting were protected. (about 150-160 need protecting per year)

Unfortunately no further breakdown on the top 30 is given. Presumably the higher you are on the list, the more likely you'll be protected. And then the article doesn't actually try to answer the headline question. But it does give a team-by-team list of their top 30 prospects that need protecting.

The Cubs have just two, their #28 and 29 prospects. I don't like their chances -- Cubs' 40-man is currently 48 players (8 on 60-day IL) and looks like all of them spent some time on the 25-man roster (they used 69! players last year). There's lots of guys to be shoved out the door already plus they'll eventually need spots for their numerous waiver, minor-league FA, rule 5 and FA pickups so anybody at the "bottom" of the 40-man isn't very secure.

James Outman, OF
Not as good a surname for a position player.

These clubs choose players on basis of merit and they allow only eligible players for 40 man rosters. Just pay for assignment to do your work on time and I think it is the only way to get rid of the burden of academic work. Grab these amazing services for your own good.
