White Sox C Yermín Mercedes Announces Abrupt Retirement From Baseball

In a shocking development, Chicago White Sox catcher Yermín Mercedes has announced that he is stepping away from the game of baseball.

Mercedes, who took the baseball world by storm with his early season heroics for the White Sox, cooled off considerably after that red-hot start, and was ultimately sent down to Triple-A Charlotte in early July.

Bizarre.

"C. Yermín Mercedes" sounds like a recently-deposed South American dictator.

DH'd for Charlotte Friday, went 2-4 with a homer.

Yeah, it would be strange for a 28-year old who can hit like he can to retire.

...and, as expected, unretired the very next day. Domingo German did similar for less-than-24-hours late last summer while awaiting his suspension to end. Invariably, the realization that retiring means driving an Uber, or doing perhaps something equally less exciting, and not playing professional baseball serves as a powerful incentive to unretire rapidly!
