Eight days after parting with long-time lead decision-makers Ken Williams and Rick Hahn, White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf has chosen Chris Getz to be the club’s new head of baseball operations. The club has officially named Getz senior vice president and general manager, the same two titles held by Hahn before he was fired.
Williams’ job title was president and it appears that spot has been left vacant, at least for the time being.
Getz, 39, has for the past seven years guided the White Sox’s minor-league operations and player-development apparatus. For the last three years, he’s also served as an assistant general manager. Before that, Getz worked in the Royals’ front office under Dayton Moore during Kansas City’s championship run.

1. Dag Nabbit: Sockless Psychopath Posted: August 31, 2023 at 11:39 AM (#6140086)Well they're also reportedly bringing in Dayton Moore, who led the Royals to three winning seasons in 16 years.
Which has been wildly successful which explains the team's success!!
Andrew Vaughn -- advanced college hitter drafted in 2019, debuted 1.5 years later, has been disappointing. Might have been a good pick but not a lot of successful development it seems. (1.5 years to the majors sounds impressive but I think it's pretty common for top college hitters.)
Robert -- they obviously did a good job here (or at least didn't screw up royally)9oo
Colas -- signed out of Cuba via NPB in Jan 2022, debuted the start of this year, probably not a lot of development. He's had a terrible year but done pretty well at AAA. Turning 25.
Cease, Kopech, Giolito, Eloy, Moncada came from outside the organization although I'm sure the Sox had some role in their final development.
They currently have 2 (#17, #65) in mlb.com's top 100.
EDIT: I'm sure it's in the article but who has time to read these days with all the time eaten up posting on the internet? Anyway, I assume this is the same Chirs Getz.
Now all we need is somebody who knows what the first step is.
I've heard they have three, but the third guy they just got in the Giolito trade.
Why Getz? Reinsdorf intended to look at outside candidates, but he had to think. He owes it to the fans to improve things as fast as possible. If you bring someone else from the outside in, it'll take them a year to evaluate them, and then you've lost a year. If Branch Rickey was available and he signed him, it would take Rickey a year to figure things out. Getz can take over right away. Ultimately, it doesn't sound like he even interviewed anyone else. He says he knows the other, outside candidates. He likes what Getz has done in the farm system. He teaches them right, like how to go to your right or how to go to your left.
He's asked about LaRussa's involvement. I'm so glad someone brought up LaRussa. I'm sick and tired of reading people blasting the hire of LaRussa. We won 93 games his first year. We won the division by X-number of games. The next year he got sick. It's a good hire. He's a great baseball manager. He has more wins than anyone else other than Connie Mack. As for now, if guys want to ask him for advice, they can.
As for the current manager, that's up to Getz if he wants to keep him. (Apparently Getz already said he will).
He doesn't think they're far off. They have a really solid core. They have a foundation. They just had some close losses early, maybe a dozen games they were one hit away on. And things snowballed from there. Bad clubhouse impact. But he likes their core.
He completely dismisses going after Ohtani. That's crazy talk. He says they'll consider some free agents, and look into some trades, but no 10-year contracts to pitchers or anything like that. What kind of players would he like? Someone like David Eckstein. That's one of Reinsdorf's favorite players of recent decades. He can't field. He can't hit. He can't run. He can't do anything except one thing - and that's beat you. Then he acknowledged he stole that line from Branch Rickey on Eddie Stanky. That's who he wants: a Stanky or an Eckstein. But not an Ohtani.
He also noted how other, more analytical teams have fired lots of scouts, so maybe they could find some gems hiring those guys.
He thinks Kenny Williams and Rick Hahn could've been able to turn it around. He really believes that. But he talked to people around him and many said, "your record is what your record is" and so he felt he had to let them go. It killed him to fire Williams. He remembers when Kenny's dad died, and he told his son he has another father. But he felt he had to fire them.
He's asked about fans saying he should sell the team. If I was a fan, I'd be pissed at this. He noted several times that 2023 has been a disaster - the worst year he's had in baseball. But, he wants people to note, it's just one bad season. They have the core. Don't rip up the foundation.
As for rumors of moving to Nashville, he dismisses that entirely.
Near the end, he was talking and got a bit muddled, paused for a bit, apologized for losing track of his thoughts - "I feel like Mitch McConnell" and the press laughed.
I think he's wrong about the core and they are wrong to keep Grifol. I think the club has a chemistry/culture issue and likely has had for a while now.
On the other hand, it's an easier division to win
