Two strikes and he cannot put away Kiermaier.

That's how it starts.

Post season form for Kershaw, as usual.
   502. The Duke Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:17 PM (#5985317)
Jansen May have been out of position but it was of no consequence. He should have been standing on the third base side of home plate because the throw came from the right side. The ball rolled to the first base side. Even if you magically place him exactly where the catcher spit the ball, it would have been an amazing play to get him out.
   503. The Duke Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:18 PM (#5985318)
Kershaw getting to two strikes but he can’t put people away consistently
   504. puck Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:19 PM (#5985319)
Wow I guess if Betts can't get to that, not many RF's would.
   505. The Duke Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:20 PM (#5985320)
If Arozarena hits a dinger here, he’s the best post-season player ever
   506. phredbird Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:20 PM (#5985321)

that is pretty much what i said.
   507. baxter Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:21 PM (#5985322)
Here we go.

Time for a two strike HR
   508. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:24 PM (#5985323)
Jansen had as much chance at making a play if in position as Clint Hill and the other agents working the Dallas motorcade.
   509. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:29 PM (#5985324)
Rays have the leadoff runner in the first 3 innings.
   510. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:31 PM (#5985325)
Is Glasnow the only righty who holds his glove parallel to the ground on his shoulder while looking in for the sign? The others I can think of off the top of my head are Lester and Doolittle.
   511. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:33 PM (#5985326)
Smoltz seems to think that there is some group of home viewers who think it would be easy to hit .250 in the majors. Pretty sure everybody knows hitting major league pitching is ridiculously hard.
   512. Ziggy: social distancing since 1980 Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:40 PM (#5985327)
ah yes, teh bullshit replay review
   513. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:42 PM (#5985328)
This is the worst usage of replay.
   514. JJ1986 Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:42 PM (#5985329)
Good.
   515. The Duke Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:42 PM (#5985330)
Stupid replay - this kind of call should never be allowed
   516. baxter Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:44 PM (#5985331)
Another chance for a two strike jack.

Walk; a Kershavian post season performance.

Rays will have 5 by the end of this inning.

I am glad to be wrong on this one, but man, the Rays are giving away outs.
   517. bunyon Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:46 PM (#5985332)
Propose we replace Conrad with Taylor.
   518. Ziggy: social distancing since 1980 Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:47 PM (#5985333)
I think I'd have had Wendle bunt there
   519. The Duke Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:47 PM (#5985334)
Another horrible outing for Kersh. Only thing remaining is how many matters too late does Roberts take him out. Glasnow should be done now as well. They shouldn’t try to Max him out
   520. puck Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:51 PM (#5985335)
Ballsy.

But that's quite a squander.
   521. Ziggy: social distancing since 1980 Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:51 PM (#5985336)
well, that was exciting, although obviously a successful steal of home would have been better
   522. Meatwad Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:51 PM (#5985337)
I think he might have been safe at home.
   523. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:52 PM (#5985338)
I thought so too, but the last angle they showed before going to commercial showed the tag being made just before his hand got in.
   524. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:52 PM (#5985339)
I'm at work and following on gameday...did Margot actually try to steal home?
   525. Ziggy: social distancing since 1980 Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:54 PM (#5985340)
he gave it a shot, it just didn't work
   526. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:54 PM (#5985341)
Yes, it was a bona fide steal attempt...and he almost made it safely.
   527. Meatwad Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:55 PM (#5985342)
I can see why they took that chance, kershaw has been slow to the plate.
   528. Tin Angel Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:55 PM (#5985343)
Yes, it was a legit steal attempt...and he almost made it safely.

Pretty bad throw by Kershaw, high and to the first base side.
   529. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 09:57 PM (#5985344)
I wonder when the last attempted steal of home during the World Series was.
   530. The Duke Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:00 PM (#5985346)
It’s not a bad play. Lefty with a long stretch. KK is not likely to hit Kershaw. It was awfully close
   531. puck Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:03 PM (#5985347)
What the heck was that blue stuff Muncy was drinking?
   532. baxter Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:03 PM (#5985348)
Already hit a HR off of him.

A very Kershavian performance by Glasnow; looked like he'd settled down and boom.

Still, not a Jansen proof lead (need at least 6 run lead).
   533. My name is Votto, and I love to get blotto Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:04 PM (#5985349)
Munch has 20 BBs this postseason. Bonds had 27 in 2002 (with one fewer round)
   534. My name is Votto, and I love to get blotto Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:07 PM (#5985350)
I was just thinking of Shane Mack the other day. He was a very good hitter (130 ops+) for his Minnesota career
   535. My name is Votto, and I love to get blotto Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:11 PM (#5985351)
5 innings, two runs....not bad, but not an outing that anyone will remember.
   536. Snowboy Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:11 PM (#5985352)
Kershaw says thank you very Max in the 5th.

Kershaw's pants: there was a Jays moment, I think, where RA Dickey switched pants with Jose Bautista? I don't know if it was a dare or a mistake or superstition, but maybe Clayton's wearing someone else's pants tonight? Multiple undoings of the belt on the mound.
   537. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:22 PM (#5985354)
Munch
That has to be his nickname, right?

   543. Crispix Attacksel Rios Posted: October 25, 2020 at 10:29 PM (#5985360)
Apparently that was the 3rd attempted steal of home in Kershaw's 13-year career.

What does “getting down the mound too quickly” even mean? It sounds like maybe it’s taking too long a stride? If so, why not just say that?

Down to the mound, I've heard pitchers say that before, it's a bit inside baseball talk, but this is a baseball game after all. Smoltz probably should've translated.

Iirc, the faster you go down the mound the faster you throw. Suspect May going too quickly down the mound led him to sacrifice his stuff for speed, thus was less effective. Just an interpretation...
   554. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:01 PM (#5985371)
Smoltz is the new Who needed a Smoltz ?

With May and Turner on the field at the same time, the Dodgers have to be the gingerest team ever.
   557. Tulo's Fishy Mullet (mrams) Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:05 PM (#5985374)
I think C. Taylor is looking like one of my volleyball players. I tell them all the time, the ball will find you, in an effort to teach them constant preparedness for contact.
   558. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:06 PM (#5985375)
I think there’s a loophole in the mound visit limit for if a pinch hitter is announced, right? Shockingly, this has led to a mound visit every single time a pinch hitter is announced.
   559. Ziggy: social distancing since 1980 Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:07 PM (#5985376)
How does the tradeoff work between the platoon advantage and the pinch hitting penalty?

No Choi, end of Story !
   561. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:10 PM (#5985378)
There is no Choi in Mudville.

He looks like the guy that, when he was 15, beat up the 12 year olds for no particular reason other than he could.
   565. Snowboy Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:14 PM (#5985382)
Justin Morneau just stated on Canada Sportsnet my similar thoughts: I didn't like the LA removal of Urias last night, nor the removal of Kershaw tonight.
Well, the timing of the removal, to be clear: mid-inning, bases empty, throwing well, etc.
(Not mentioned, but I'll bring it up: the removal of Morton last series by Rays when he was cruising, it's not exclusively a Dodgers thing.)
Decisions made in the morning boardroom, I call them.
   566. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:15 PM (#5985383)
Didn’t I read something about MLB having security people in the stands to enforce the mask requirement?
   567. puck Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:16 PM (#5985384)
Hard to ask Arozarena to do more but that was disappointing.
   568. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:16 PM (#5985385)
I will a-Lowe it !

If so then they’re doing an awful job because it seems like maybe 20 percent of the people they’re showing have the mask on.
   574. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:21 PM (#5985391)
Donald Trump is in the stands , enforcing the Mask-Wearing rules !

Mask-wearing really isn’t necessary outdoors if you keep separation.

We got a Kershaw start and an attempted steal of home, we can't really complain about this game. But after yesterday, it was a bit disappointing.

Still not seeing anything that says the Rays are good enough to win this. Got lucky last night - don’t see
Them winning two more
   595. Snowboy Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:41 PM (#5985412)
Wait, someone in the Dodgers braintrust figured out Blake Trienen was their best bullpen pitcher right now, and didn't instruct to bring him in with the bases empty in the fifth as relief of the SP like last night? He closed a 4-2 game? Wowsa, hitting F5 works.
   596. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:42 PM (#5985413)
Well yeah, pretty much anything was going to be disappointing compared to yesterday. But overall this has been a good Series thus far. If the Rays can force a Game 7 it could be a great one.
   597. AT-AT at bat@AT&T Posted: October 25, 2020 at 11:42 PM (#5985414)
7:3 and 5:2 , easy rays wins !

Speaking about the attempted steal of home, Kershaw recalls another time when someone tried to do it against him: "Carlos Gomez one time in Houston". Fact check: true
