World Series champs Washington Nationals get their parade

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals are getting a hero’s welcome home from a city that had been thirsting for a World Series championship for nearly a century.

Tens of thousands of fans are expected for a parade Saturday honoring the Nationals, who won a nail-biting, come-from-behind victory against the Houston Astros in Game 7 to clinch the World Series.

“When they tell you dreams come true, point them toward our @Nationals,” Mayor Muriel Bowser tweeted Thursday. “Tell them they do.”

She included the hashtag SportsCapital, a reference, too, to the Washington Capitals’ Stanley Cup championship in 2018 and the Washington Mystics’ WNBA championship this year.

So, any of you planning to line the parade route?

Most of the DC TV stations seem to covering the parade, apparently even bumping college football in one case.

The Bud Light Hero is riding in the parade. He’s done very well for not making a clean catch.

My brother is in the National Guard band and he found out a couple days ago they'd be participating in the parade. He sent me a photo earlier today of him and some fellow band members posing with Gerardo Parra. Naturally they played a rendition of Baby Shark.

Stephen Strasburg plans to opt out of his contract and become a free agent, according to a person with knowledge of the situation.

Thanks for all the fish!

They haven't even sobered up from the World Series parade and festivities this afternoon.

If Strasburg leaves does that mean no more hugging in the dugout?

@BNightengale

Agent Scott Boras agreed days ago with the Washington #Nats that they would begin negotiations re-working Stephen Strasburg’s contract on Sunday
Will we see a quick deal, or a protracted negotiation with other teams making bids? With the deferred money, the present value of the remaining 4 years of Strasburg’s contract was ~ $88M. Something like 5 years, $140M might get it done. The Lerners should see this as an opportunity to invest in the franchise, part of a multi-year effort to build on the WS win and boost attendance, TV ratings, and their revenue stream.

Was he wearing a Boras hat during the parade, and telling people "I'm not here to celebrate for the team, but I'm here to celebrate for myself"?

He can almost assuredly beat $100MM in the open market, so definitely the correct move.

A college prof friend of mine has no interest in baseball, but plans on attending the parade because (a) it goes right by her office and (b) she likes "Baby Shark".

I kid you not.

She's going to be bummed when she finds out the parade already happened. She'll have no other way to listen to Baby Shark.
