Joan Steinbrenner was quizzical…
The Yankees acquired outfielder Justin Maxwell from the Nationals on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Adam Olbrychowski.
Maxwell, 27, batted .144 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 67 games for Washington last season. He also played in 66 games at Triple-A Syracuse, batting .287 with six home runs and 21 RBIs.
“I’m very excited,” Maxwell said. “I feel blessed that the Yankees were willing to take a chance on me considering I’m coming off offseason surgery. I’m excited for the new opportunity and for the new year.”

1. You can keep your massive haul Posted: February 02, 2011 at 09:41 PM (#3741970)That's smart.
How can the Royals and Pirates possibly hope to compete for these kind of free agents?
Take it to the coffee thread.
You forgot former Cy Young winner Bartolo Colon!
If he takes one of these to the plate instead of a bat, he's sure to produce a hit. Worked for these guys.
in Hoboken and saw the show where the infamous Raunch Hands opened for the Replacements, who showed-up even drunker than the RH's were...and got blown off the stage.
Ah yes...Maxwells.
hammerbat with him?The one with 850 posts on hot topics, obviously. :P
That's smart.
Hee hee
Apr 22, 1983 (I think this was their first gig there and a total R/R mess)...I Ride The Bus were openers. (talked/drank w/Wester/Stinson...remember little)
The Raunch Hands show...can't find date in my brewstained notebook.
Sept 21, 1984 They Might Be Giants(!) were the openers.
Feb. 4, 1986 The soggy "Murder At The Maxwell" show.
BTW...Former owner Steve Fallon has contacted me about helping him write a "History of Maxwell's" type book. Good thing I kept sloppy notes!
Still, he's been pretty damn good whenever he could actually stay healthy, having great speed, a little pop and draws walks, slightly strikeout prone but not insanely so.
Seems like a good depth move, he has some pretty serious upsides if he could stay healthy. obviously a rather big if.
He's also right handed. so i'm guessing that if he can avoid being hurt (again, big if) he's probably on the opening day bench.
edit: woops, I forgot they got Andruw Jones, still, Maxwell's better than the other OF guys they have in AAA.
