Yankees’ bad luck continues as new injury delays Giancarlo Stanton’s return

For every piece of good news the New York Yankees have received on the injury front this season, it seems they’ve been hit with at least two tough breaks in response.

That was the case again on Wednesday. Shortly after catcher Gary Sanchez was activated from the injured list, manager Aaron Boone revealed that Giancarlo Stanton’s return will be delayed by a new injury.

The Yankees designated hitter has fully healed from the biceps strain that sent him to the injured list on April 1. While that’s encouraging, the bad news is that Stanton’s left shoulder is now sore. The new ailment required a cortisone shot, which guarantees he won’t return on the team’s current road trip.

To make matters worse, there’s a clump of dirt waiting outside Stanton’s house- it claims to be from Pittsburgh….

Good news?!

Good news?!

Seriously.

The Yankees just welcomed one player back from the injured list (Gary Sanchez), so now it’s time to lose someone else. Clint Frazier is heading to the 10-day injured list with a left ankle strain, Aaron Boone announced following tonight’s win. The Yankees believe it is a two-week injury. We’ll see.

“Fraz very much feels like he can play or is close to playing, but the MRI revealed enough in there — I don’t have the exact what it is — but revealed enough of some partial tear and it’s gonna cost him the ten days,” Boone told Lindsey Adler.

I just wish Steinbrenner would loosen the purse strings enough to let Cashman go get a functional first baseman and leave Voit be the full time DH and mash. The fill-ins are battling as hard as they can. The starting pitching and defense (Urshela!) has mostly been great.

I really feel like Span could pull a Tim Raines and play without spring training. No doubt in my mind that he could have some quality AB's and play good defense in a corner. But it looks like they are going to call up Amburgey instead. Gosuke Katoh is off to a nice start in AAA (1.049 .OPS) and has long been an interesting, versatile prospect who could project as a MLB depth piece. But he hasn't played in OF this season (played some last year) and it could be a lot to ask for a guy to make his MLB debut out of position. Hard to get too excited about Amburgey.

Isn't Amburgey what sperm whales vomit?

Oh ... that's Ambergris, sorry Trey.

Amburgey isn't a MLB caliber player. I don't think you can go to him for more than a series.

At least ambergris has value.

Sorry, Trey (not really).

The Scranton outfield options seem to be on hold, as the Yankees have acquired Cameron Maybin. For cash, and presumably not that much of it. Looks like a stopgap move until Hicks & Frazier return, but I’m beginning to doubt that the recoveries will ever outpace the injuries.

He's tanned, rested and ready. (Well, tanned and rested, anyway.)

What itch does Mike Ford not scratch that Chris Davis would?

Apparently a guy coming back from injury when he was supposed to qualifies as good news for the Yankees.
