Yankees’ Brett Gardner wants fan making bizarre sexual claims kept away from his family, MLB stadiums

In a strange and often incomprehensible lawsuit, which the Yankees have asked a Bronx civil court judge to dismiss, Devasahayam says the Yankees not only are preventing her from getting close to Gardner, but she also alleges they have hacked into her Twitter account to steal her intellectual property.

Detailed in the lawsuit are some of the ways she says Gardner has hinted at his interest in her:

In a video of Gardner in the dugout, Gardner “motions with his hip on the stairs as though he is having sexual intercourse with me.”
She says Gardner makes “a sad face” during home games when she does not attend. She adds that Gardner was once ejected from a game by an umpire who likely received “signals” from her social media that she was angry with the outfielder.
After “3 years of romancing online,” she said she started attending games “because I see that Brett desires this.”

This person appears to be severely mentally ill and I think it is a shame that the paper published the article.

Though the Yankees want her banned, Devasahayam insists Gardner wants her around.

“You know, when he plays, he signals,” Devasahayam told NJ Advance Media. “They have their own signals, first of all, for pitch type and all that. ... And then there’s another thing called romantically and sexually signaling toward me. That is how our relationship has progressed because he has started sexually signaling toward me.”

Yeah it's one thing to quote from a court filing or whatever, but they actually interviewed her? She's pretty obviously not well.

The POTUS is mentally severely ill yet the media won't stop reporting it.

If you look at the evidence fairly, I think Mrs. Gardner V.2 has a surprisingly solid case.

We can make our jokes but this is a serious situation. I hope every team in baseball has her photograph. While I agree with Russlan that this woman needs help the sad reality is that people in her condition do a lot of very bad things to people. I hope there isn't a tragedy at the end of this.

I am a bad person who finds this story hilarious.

EDIT: which is probably really stupid of me, since I actually had/have a female stalker.

I don’t think you (or anyone else in this thread) is a bad person. I just think it warranted saying how serious this kind of situation can be. Believe me, I laughed at several of the posts above and if I came across as being condescending that wasn’t my intent.

Get a load of the guy bragging about being attractive to the opposite sex.

I know! As if he doesn’t realize that all he has to do is tell his mom to stop letting her into the basement.

I’m assuming that Eddie Waitkus would agree. This lady is a serious loon. Perhaps Gardner should ask Brian Cashman how he gets rid of his loons, when he’s done with them.

I had what I guess could have been described as a "stalker" in college - but it never occurred to me then that it could be dangerous. it just seemed flattering, and nothing came of it.

more importantly, I agree that even if contacting the dicey plaintiff could be justified here (meh), I'd say no to publishing once the concerns were confirmed.

a certain GM had a romantic/legal entanglement a few years back, but not all of it was contrived. that makes it a bit different - even if the value of publishing there, too, can be a fair debate.

Yeah, but these things might not be related, so you're ok.

Right -- it's civilian women threatening male athletes that should be our worry. Of course.

Pretty sure baseball players are civilians. It's not like the Red Army Hockey team.

Pretty sure they're not treated like civilians in their workplace, either physically or mentally. If someone happens to get past security at my workplace, there aren't scores of cops at the ready to jump out and capture the person. Nor are there a bunch of fanboys at the ready to applaud them on.

But be that as it may, it remains the case that athletes are a far bigger threat to civilians than the other way around, by orders of magnitude. I'll place my worry far more in that direction than the other way.

Your general point is sound, although almost entirely irrelevant to this specific case and the discussion at hand.

Yeah, what's the argument? This chick should be let in to the stadiums to harass, and possibly harm, Gardner because athletes have done lots of shitty things?
