Yankees should be nearing their Domingo German breaking point

Imagine you’re Aaron Boone, or Brian Cashman, or Hal Steinbrenner.

It’s Wednesday night and you’re getting ready for the annual holiday that is the first pitchers and catchers workouts the next morning. You’ve got scores of COVID-specific details to handle plus the standard desire to launch your desired championship run with the right first step.

Then you get alerted that Domingo German, already on thin ice, has set Instagram aflame again.

At what point do you decide the right-hander’s upside doesn’t merit the agita he creates? The Yankees should be approaching that point. They must, for the good of everyone else they employ.

After all, when your team’s player representative, Zack Britton, one of the more affable humans to ever roam the Earth, proclaims, “Sometimes you don’t get to control who your teammates are and that’s the situation,” as he did Thursday about his fellow pitcher, that speaks volumes about German’s status here.

so which 45% of the populace did he upset with his Instagram?

Unfortunately if it is the portion that views twitter and Instagram as the highest form of communication, yes, that may be it for him.

Does anyone have a link to screen captures of the deleted Instagram pages that Germán took down?

"Everything is definitely over. Thanks again for everything."

3, Thank you.

THAT's the scandal? That Germ'an seems to have written a post where he suggests to an apparent former love interest that it's all over and that he's sad about it?

Mind you, it would be in very, very bad taste if "MV" was the woman regarding which he was condemned for domestic violence, but in an isolated fashion, I don't see the scandal.

Why would you look at in an isolated fashion?

I'm having trouble finding any detail on German's DV case, except one site says he was seen slapping his girlfriend, and another the he was seen "roughing her up".

Do we know what actually happened? Was he ever arrested? He seems to be getting treated much more harshly than other alleged DV perps. I mean, from what I've read, his case is much less serious than that of Aroldis Chapman, which allegedly involved choking and gunshots.

It seems very odd that German can't be tolerated while Chapman is welcomed with open arms.

5, because I have no other information about any recent actions from Germán about DV.

FTA:
it’s hard to think of someone who has set off more red flags since getting caught. In February 2020, while his teammates worked at George M. Steinbrenner Field, German, instructed to stay in his native Dominican Republic, was involved in a dune-buggy accident, making headlines despite his absence.

That's right, Ken, the manager who, as a player, tore his ACL in an off-season basketball game in violation of the standard contract is exactly the white guy to lecture German.

Mind you, it would be in very, very bad taste if "MV" was the woman regarding which he was condemned for domestic violence

I don't understand.

There’s nothing here to see which is why it is an odd media story. Just not much to talk about so rehashing old stuff. He can say almost nothing that won’t be interpreted badly so the best course of action would be to turn off social media, eliminate press contact unless it is a game story, and try to disappear into that woodwork for a while

This came out today:

In September 2019, Germán and his girlfriend attended a charity gala held by then-teammate CC Sabathia. Many of Germán’s 2019 teammates were also there with their families. Germán slapped his girlfriend at the event, sources said, but the MLB investigation focused primarily on what happened at his home later that night.

According to multiple league sources, including a person with knowledge of the MLB investigation, Germán was intoxicated and became physically violent toward his girlfriend until she hid in a locked room. The victim is said to have contacted the wife of another Yankees player, and the couple drove to Germán’s home late at night. The victim remained with the teammate’s wife, while the player attempted to calm down Germán, who is said to have been angry and belligerent.

The incident was reported to MLB by a different member of the Yankees staff, whom Germán’s girlfriend had told about it. The victim did not call law enforcement, so there is no police report from the night of the assault.

This is all known stuff - it’s why he was suspended. His Instagram post is seemingly meaningless unless i am missing something.

As I understand it, German’s Instagram posts were apparently somewhat ambiguous, and some in the media seemed to suggest he was suicidal, or going to quit baseball, but they could also be read to indicate he was making a fresh start, or putting things behind him, which I believe German has indicated was his intent. Seems like a non-story.
