I watched some of the Cards/Brewers games yesterday. I know Yelich has been bad, but this was my first time seeing several of his at-bats in 2020. Wow, he looks lost. For those who follow the Brewers more closely than I do, what's the deal? Any speculation why he's up there swinging and missing like Chris Davis up there?

Yankees reinstate Stanton, Urshela & Loaisiga from IL, send Mike Ford & Miguel Andujar to alternate training site. We’ll see how quickly they shake the rust off. Judge reportedly should be good to go by the weekend.

Any speculation why he's up there swinging and missing like Chris Davis up there?

He signed his Chris Davis extension? :-)

Looking at his numbers ... it is really weird. You're right the K-rate has jumped from 21% to 33% which is ridiculous. The BB-rate has also jumped. Everthing else actually looks pretty stable except for the 250 BABIP ... for a career 355 BABIP hitter. (that's not a typo -- 355 is outstanding.) Hard to blame "weak contact" when he's still carrying a 23% HR/FB rate.

For a slugger (even a non-slugger) he's GB-heavy and the bottom has fallen out of his GBs -- career 278 hitter (also excellent) now down to 146. But he's demolishing FBs again and his LD rate is a career high. Have they found some new magical shift againts him? His Rbase is down, his Rfield is down -- leg injury? The dreaded plantar fascitis? (The decline in Rbase and Rfield isn't dramatic, just poking around for clues.)

Stanton @ DH, batting 4th; and Urshela @ 3rd, batting 5th, tonight for the Yankees. In two steps forward, one step back fashion, Gleyber Torres is out of the lineup with “little bit of a quad issue”, although he’ll reportedly be available off the bench.

Yelich's deal with the devil expired?

So Musgrove throws four straight balls to walk Joey Votto, loading the bases with nobody out in the first inning.

And then Jesse Winker swings at the first pitch, hitting a grounder to force the runner at home.

Is there a school of though that says hey, I'm swinging because he'll be trying to just get it over for strike one with the bases loaded"?

vs. the school of thought that says, the pressure's on the pitcher, make him throw a strike.

(for what it's worth, the pitch he swung at was a 94mph sinker low and away, towards the bottom corner, that missed the strike zone but was close enough that there's a chance it could have been called a strike.)

MLB HR leader Luke Voit hits #17, a 3-run blast, and Aaron Hicks follows with a solo shot. Yankees lead Blue Jays 7-1, with only 1 earned due to some atrocious outfield play by Derek Fisher, in the battle for 2nd place in the AL East.

BB, BB, BB, HBP & HBP leads to 2 more Yankee runs, with bases still loaded, no one out. 9-1.

EDIT: 3-run double by LeMahieu makes it 12-1 in 3rd.

Mo calling Cashman every day. Would you like Gallegos back for Voit ?
   10. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 15, 2020 at 08:52 PM (#5976642)
3-run HR by Gary Sanchez gives the Yankees a 12-run lead, 15-3 in 4th.

MLB HR leader Luke Voit hits #17

Adam Duvall hit his 15th tonight.

he now has 10 bombs in September, and it's only September 15
   12. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 15, 2020 at 09:32 PM (#5976701)
#18 for Luke Voit. 17-3 in 6th.

The Blue Jays Alejandro Kirk is a throwback to the squatty, fireplug catchers of yore. He’s listed on BB-Ref as 5’8” & 265 lbs, but may be shorter and heavier. ESPN lists him at an improbable 5’9” & 220 lbs. Never played above A ball until recently called up.

Mets will miss the playoffs with everyday hitters Conforto .341, DomSmith .333, McNeil .326, Cano .323.

they entered the day at 4-6-8-9 in the NL batting title race.

Conforto DSmith Nimmo are 4-9-12 in OBP

Clint Frazier 2-run HR makes it 19-3 Yankees after 7.

Position Player Pitching Alert: Santiago Espinal on the mound for the Blue Jays to face the top of the Yankee order. LeMahieu greets him with a HR. 20-3.
   17. salvomania Posted: September 15, 2020 at 10:03 PM (#5976726)
Nine different Brewers have an RBI tonight and it's only the 5th inning.
   18. salvomania Posted: September 15, 2020 at 10:05 PM (#5976727)
Obviously not a Quality Start for Jack Flaherty.

18. Most of them aren’t these days

Kole Calhoun revenge game. Second homer, 5 RBIs, against the Angels so far.

Jeremy Jeffress with the rare "looks like total ####\" outing.

#6 -- I suspect the philosophy these days is "if you see a pitch you like, hack it." Obviously hitters will sometimes make the wrong decision and there are probably some hitters who are such poor judges that maybe you should give them a take sign.

More crazy scores: 20-6, 18-3 and 17+ runs in Ari-LAA with a couple of innings to go. In the past week, 19 times a team has scored 10+ (could add one with Ari-LAA) including 2 over 20, a 19 and a 18.

July 4.62 R/G
Aug 4.67 R/G
Sept 4.81 R/G

So that's not much of a change. As I mentioned in some other thread, there have also been plenty of shut-outs and low-scoring games. But it seems like the variance has gone crazy.
