YouTube TV is losing Fox regional sports networks

A number of Fox regional sports networks (RSNs) will no longer be available for YouTube TV subscribers beginning October 1st, the company announced.

The move comes after YouTube and Fox first spoke publicly about Fox channels leaving YouTube TV in February, but the two companies came to an agreement to carry the rest of the MLB, NBA, and NHL seasons through 2020. As the NBA and NHL’s seasons come to an end, and with the MLB set to finish around the end of October, Fox and YouTube’s agreement is also being severed.

“To bring you 85+ channels, we periodically renegotiate contracts with content owners,” the official YouTube TV Twitter account tweeted. “Starting October 1, 2020, FOX RSNs will no longer be available on YouTube TV. Members that are impacted will no longer have access to Library recordings from the FOX RSNs.”

Approximately 19 channels will be impacted. According to Variety, they include Fox Sports Arizona, Fox Sports Carolinas, Fox Sports Detroit, Fox Sports Florida, Fox Sports Indiana, Fox Sports Kansas City, Fox Sports Midwest, Fox Sports New Orleans, Fox Sports North, Fox Sports Ohio, Fox Sportstime Ohio, Fox Sports Oklahoma, Fox Sports Prime Ticket (Los Angeles), Fox Sports San Diego, Fox Sports South, Fox Sports Southeast, Fox Sports Southwest, Fox Sports Sun, Fox Sports Tennessee, and Fox Sports Wisconsin.

Yeah I'm on the market again I guess. I'll wait a bit to see if they get a deal together like they did last time. I think it's the best streaming service by a long shot, but it costs so much more than Sling, and I can get essentially everything I want there now that they're losing the RSNs.

Well, baseball and the NBA regular seasons are over, so I'll stick with them until next year starts up, but this coupled with the price hike will likely make me switch to Hulu.

Huh, Fox still owns the RSNs? I thought Disney got them during the purchase and had to divest, leading to Sinclair or the like purchasing them. Or is there now some other entity that is grandfathered into being able to use the Fox name?

Sinclair owns them, they retain the Fox name for now, although IIRC, they are planning to rebrand.

Just curious, is Fox Sports on anything other than cable providers now?

It was two separate deals... the rsns were sold independently of the entertainment stations (I think that the faux news was also left alone)

At least that is what I thought I heard, Disney never have a chance at faux news or the sports stations... they just wanted to sell the entertainment divisions.

I've got FS1 and FS2 on Fubo.

I believe they're available on all the streaming services these days.

Hulu has live sports, as Baker Mayfield and Saquon Barkley have pointed out. They have Fox RSNs....for now. I just preferred Youtube Tv's interface to Hulu.

Sling dropped the RSNs last year in a similar squabble, and still don't carry them.

Yeah the question was FS1 and FS2, which they have.

Same, it's clearly the best. I was a happy Vue customer until they discontinued it but ended up preferring YouTube. I don't like Hulu's at all (tried that out a year or so ago and didn't like it).

Sling really is a lot cheaper than YT. Anyone have any experience with that?

Actually the question was worded poorly by me, is fox rsn on any service besides cable?

I've tried a lot of them;

PSVue was far and away the best. Intuitive, good lineup, easy to navigate.
YouTubeTV is a distant second. Same as PSVue in a lot of ways but just not as user friendly IMHO.
Fubo is great as a sports fan but the picture quality is comparatively poor. As often as not I use native apps (e.g. I watched last night's games on ESPN app)
SlingTV is not very good IMO. I found it a bit irksome to use and for my purposes the channel lineup was lacking.
Hulu sucks, just not very intuitive. Too closely linked to the Hulu streaming service so finding stuff is tricky. I think it would be better if it was separated like YouTube TV and YouTube are.

Right now YTTV and Fubo are my only options for my sports preferences (i.e. they are the only ones with NESN which gets me Red Sox and Bruins).

Ha, okay, well sorry to you both then! I think Hulu Live TV still has them? You'd have to check your zip code, though.

I thought Sling was the best, the only issue was they had two separate plans, one had Fox and its sports channels, the other had ESPN and its sports channels. You could get both, but it was more money. So I would get the Fox sports plan during baseball season, then switch to the ESPN package for college basketball season. They also ended up dropping the Fox RSNs, which led me to drop them and go to Youtube TV.

I believe this was what people predicted when Sinclair bought these channels. They're known for being very tough negotiators, and have apparently told these carriers to either pay exobritant rates or pound sand.

Jose, for soccer fan purposes Sling is looking okay right now because they have BeIn. I'm already paying for the ESPN+ etc. bundle, and Peacock finally got me, so if I just switch YTTV to Sling I'd have all soccer channels covered, and they have NBA and MLB Networks, the ESPNs, FS1 and 2, etc., so it's looking pretty decent for sports fans. No RSNs, but that's true for most of them at this point (and I don't live in the market of my favorite teams anyway).

Last time I checked they do, but their service is the same price as cable and much more limited and has lagging issues at times. (and as mentioned, not nearly as easy to use) If I'm going to spend $40 on tv, then I would choose cable, the problem is that I think that is too high of a price. Sling at $25 was my comfort zone, anything more is just a waste for how little I use the service.

Yeah, Fubo has BeIn as well which is good.

Blurgh, Fubo looks expensive, though. That is a much better lineup than Sling, though.

I genuinely hate all of this, would much rather spring for cable. But cutting that cost by a little has enabled me to pay for NBA League Pass, ESPN+, etc., while still saving a little each month.
