Mariners - Signed Everett

Seattle Mariners - Signed OF Carl Everett to a 1-year contract.

Everett still has a role with a major league club in the right situation but this is one of the worst places for Cambrian Carl to be.  Everett’s not the same player he used to be - his only real offensive contribution now is the home run.  But now he’s moving from a park with a 3-year HR Factor in the 1.3s to one in the 0.9s and apparently, given a full-time job as a DH instead of a 4th-outfielder off the bench.  It’s hard to see what the Mariners are getting out of this - I’d rather sign now-free agent Bucky Jacobsen back and hope he’s recovered fully from the knee problems that ruined his 2005 season.  I’m sure the White Sox will acquire Everett back in August.

Sure, after Thome's back and knee give out for good.

ESPN says:
Everett, who batted .251 with 23 home runs and 87 RBI for Chicago last season, gets a $3.4 million salary next year. The Mariners also have a club option for 2007 with a $600,000 buyout.

Here's hoping Batista won't be earning $4 million like Everett.
