White Sox - Acquired Alomar Jr.

Chicago White Sox - Acquired C Sandy Alomar Jr. from the Los Angeles Dodgers for P B.J. LaMura.

Sandalomar is back in black!  All the White Sox need to do now is acquire Carl Everett and really get the retro fever flowing!  Well, considering Carl Everett stinks now, that may not be a good idea.  Chris Widger was terrible and Alomar will be a tiny bit better, though you don’t want him starting regularly if A.J. goes down.

Don’t expect much defense from Alomar anymore as he moves about as well as a street mime that became asphyxiated in his invisible box and nobody in the crowd helped because it was an act except for that one guy who knew the mime was really suffocating but he had recently watched The Warriors on DVD and thought that the mime was part of that mime gang so letting the mime die was good for society because it ensured that the mime later wouldn’t stab someone with a an actual, non-mime, knife in Soho while looking at some art that the artist thought was postmodern but was actually just an indication of the artist’s heroin addiction that made him also think that the Grateful Dead were an awesome band even though they totally weren’t.

B.J. LaMura, despite having a perfect name for a comedy sidekick in an 80s action TV show, is mostly an organizational pitcher - the White Sox have given up a lot of their better low-level arms over the last year but LaMura isn’t a loss and about what you’d expect to get for a bad backup catcher with veteran moxie.

If you believe in the importance of postseason stats, Alomar's a nice pickup. Maybe it's a move just for insurance, in case the jobber goes down. Or perhaps they plan to give ol' targethead some off days down the stretch.

LaMura's an organizational soldier, as Dan says. He's not a particularly hard thrower (gets into the low 90s on occasion but usually works in the upper 80s), but gets strikeouts by changing speeds effectively and working the corners. Middle relief fodder in the majors, most likely.

The big difference is that Widger is healthy and Alomar will probably have a stint on the DL before the season's over. If Widger takes an assignment to Charlotte then it's an OK move.

Am I missing something? Sandy's hit 214/247/364 in 180 playoff PA.

You're probably right. My memory might be too World Series-centric. He sure looked like Reggie Jackson out there a couple years for the Tribe.

Well he did have that homer off Rivera, but that was nine years ago. I would imagine he could stay healthy, because I don't think he'll play more than Widger, unless they make him Burly's personal catcher or something.

Szym, not to be a dick, but....

Are you going to post your thoughts in at TO on the Hillenbrand situation and trade?
I'm interested.

Hmm... I wouldn't associate the Dead with heroin. Pot, acid, shrooms for sure.

Late 70s heroin ... I think you're talking Ramones, Sex Pistols, Debbie Boone.

Can we get an Oracle about the de la Rosa/Graffanino trade? I want to complain.
