I dont know, .322/.378/.480 in AA isn't bad...its better than say, Lew Ford's High A ball line at the same age. 35 BB and 58 Ks in 394 at bats...not bad I guess, and he can sqipe a base, too. So maybe they found a 25th guy? Nah.

I did say it was a nice year, Joe. Moving over my other comments: I think he's here to compete for a spot as Trot's caddy. If it looks like 2004 was a fluke during ST, they'll trade him or send him back.

I'm okay with the pick, but I would have prefered a reliever with some Hubie Brown.

I'm pissed McGinley wasn't taken. I don't get that at all.

From the "He has a name but who gives a crap" department, the Sox lost Rick Asadoorian.

He's a lefty, so he's not here to platoon with Trot.

Looks like he fills the Dave Roberts role, no? LH hitter, plays CF and gets on base.

Do they keep him in the designated base stealer role for the season and hope that they can work on his hitting skills? Should be interesting to watch.

We also got Victor Prieto via the Nationals in the AAA phase of the draft:

He must throw 101 MPH or something

There's a little draft info at Baseball America

Only 12 players were chosen in the major league phase; there's the note about the Nationals selling Prieto to the Sox.

There's also some notes about the minor league portion.

Minor league portion picks...@ MILB

Out of 12 picks, 5 left handers. Still seems the strategy of choice.

Any thoughts that JJ Davis would have been a better selection? There's at least decent shot he could have taken the Gabe Kapler, failed prospect but I can platoon with Trot role.

Theo just needed another Chosen to replace Kapler

This comment on Victor Prieto from Tuesday's Globe struck me as very funny:

Prieto, a 21-year-old Venezuelan, went 0-11 with and 11.54 ERA in Single A and rookie ball last season, but the Sox liked his potential.

Josh Phelps DFAed by the Indians today. I think he'd be a nice pickup to plug into the role Ellis Burks was supposed to have in 2004: RH pinch hitter with power and occasional relief for Ortizzle against lefties. Phelps put up a .908 OPS against LHPs the last three years.
